Date of Birth:

GOALS

I aim to be working developing websites using a combination of XHTML, CSS, and PHP. I have a passion for building websites and I want to continue making a living out of doing something I enjoy.

I strive not only to make websites that look nice, but to also make websites that are both functional and accessible to any user. I am always eager to learn new skills and would thrive at being given the opportunity to.

EXPERIENCE

Buzz Design (March 2008 – July 2008)

My role at Buzz Design was the solo web developer. This meant that I had to deal with all aspects of website development from the coding and testing, to sorting out the hosting, domains and emails. I further developed my skills using PHP and MySQL at Buzz by building a bespoke content management system. I also gained experience using open source content management systems (CMSMS - CMS Made Simple).

eConnected Ltd (September 2007 – January 2008)

I worked at eConnected as a web developer in a four person team. My main responsibilities were to code the entirety of the front end of websites using XHTML and CSS and cross browser test them. I would also do various checks for accessibility. I substantially improved my XHTML and CSS skills with a combination of new techniques and experience using them professionally. During my time there I also gained professional experience using PHP to build dynamic websites.

SKILLS

Accessibility: I am trained as an accessibility specialist. I test for things such as, text resizing, colour clashing, plus proper and semantic nesting and structure of XHTML as I believe anybody should be able to use the web and shouldn’t be hindered by any disabilities.

CSS: I build every website using validated CSS. CSS is an interest of mine and I enjoy learning new techniques and refining my current knowledge in my spare time. I believe CSS to be the future of web design and I validate my CSS using the W3C’s validation tool. I also create custom print style sheets for websites to ensure only relevant information is shown when printed. The print style sheet is usually styled so as to reflect a client’s letter header.

XHTML: When preparing the XHTML to be styled by CSS I strive to make it as structured as possible for ease of use and to ensure the website will still be functional in a text only mode. I write the code semantically to make it easier to read. Throughout the process of coding the XHTML I use the Firefox extension ‘HTML Validator’ and make sure at all times it displays zero errors, this also helps with the search engine optimisation of the website.

PHP: I have professional experience using PHP (along with MySQL) to both work with and develop bespoke content management systems. I have also worked with open source CMS'

Cross Browser Compatibility: During the process of building a website I constantly test for cross browser compatibility after every change as I feel anybody should be able to view a website no matter what their browser preference is. I test websites in Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, and Safari.

JavaScript: I can implement any JavaScript into a website with ease to increase functionality and usability. I always make sure that any JavaScript I use is fully degradable for non JavaScript browsers.

  • Portfolio - The clickable images use the Lightbox 2 Javascript.

Notepad++: I hand code all my websites in Notepad++.

FTP: I can upload websites using any FTP software; I also have experience verbally dealing with web hosts with issues such as name server changing. I can also set up new hosting and transfer websites over to it, along with setting up new mailboxes.

Dreamweaver: I have experience using Dreamweaver and can use it if needed.

Photoshop: I have used Adobe Photoshop extensively to edit and create any images/screen designs I need. I used Photoshop to create all the graphics for the eConnected website. I also used Photoshop to create Google AdWords banners for eConnected’s AdWords campaign.

Flash: I have skills in flash and action script to create small animations. I can also correctly implement Flash animations into websites.

Freehand: I have had experience in college using freehand to create a fictional corporate style.
